From the President . . .

Just a reminder during the winter months to
be careful and remember one of the safety
standards: Slips, Trips, and Falls: Prevention
and Safety Tips

Adam Molenda
President

Slips, trips, and falls are among the most
common accidents in both the workplace and
at home. They can lead to serious injuries,
decreased productivity, and increased
medical costs. Understanding the causes and knowing how to
prevent these accidents can make a significant difference in
maintaining a safe environment for everyone.

Common Causes of Slips, Trips, and Falls

Wet or Slick Floors: Spilled liquids, freshly mopped floors,
or icy sidewalks can create dangerous surfaces.
Uneven Surfaces: Cracked sidewalks, poorly maintained
carpets, or uneven flooring can easily cause trips.
Cluttered Walkways: Items left in hallways, aisles, or
stairways can obstruct paths and lead to accidents.
Improper Footwear: Shoes that lack grip or do not provide
adequate support increase the likelihood of slipping or
tripping.

How to Prevent Slips, Trips, and Falls

At Work:

  • Maintain Clean Floors: Regularly clean spills and ensure that floors are dry. Use non-slip mats in high-risk areas like kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Install Proper Lighting: Ensure all areas are well-lit, especially stairways and hallways.
  • Fix Hazards Immediately: Repair any broken tiles, uneven flooring, or loose carpets. Keep pathways clear of obstructions.
  • Use Proper Footwear: Encourage employees to wear slipresistant shoes or boots that provide adequate support.
  • Implement Regular Safety Training: Teach employees about the risks of slips, trips, and falls and how to prevent them.

Slips, trips, and falls are preventable, and being proactive is key. By keeping spaces clean and well-lit, wearing proper footwear, and addressing hazards quickly, we can reduce injuries. Safety should always be a top priority—at work or at home—so let’s take steps to protect ourselves and others.
